Description
The Mekong Delta — called Đồng Bằng Sông Cửu Long, the "Nine Dragon River Delta" — is the southernmost region of Vietnam, where the Mekong River branches into an intricate network of waterways before reaching the South China Sea.
The gateway to the delta is My Tho, the provincial capital of Tien Giang, sitting on the northern bank of the Tien River — the larger of the delta's two main distributaries. From there, the route crosses into Ben Tre Province: a landscape of coconut palms, water hyacinth, and hand-navigated canals that sustain one of Vietnam's most productive agricultural regions.
The itinerary visits Vinh Trang Pagoda, one of the Mekong Delta's most significant Buddhist temple complexes; Unicorn Island (Thoi Son) in the middle of the river; and a working honey bee farm where fresh honey is available directly from the hive. A Coconut Candy Workshop demonstrates Ben Tre's signature traditional industry — the candy shaped and cut by hand over open flame, an output of the province's coconut monoculture. The afternoon moves at the pace of the land: by motorboat, sampan, bicycle, and tuk-tuk through riverine scenery that has changed little in its essential character.
Itinerary
DAY 1: Mekong Delta Full-Day Tour 07:30 – Pick-up at hotel in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. Transfer to My Tho, Tien Giang Province (approximately 1.5 hours). 09:00 – Arrive at Vinh Trang Pagoda, My Tho: one of the most significant Buddhist temple complexes in the southern delta. 09:30 – Transfer to the pier. Boat trip to Unicorn Island (Thoi Son) and Coconut Island in Ben Tre Province. 10:00 – Traditional Southern Vietnamese folk music performance with live instruments. Tropical fruit tasting. 10:45 – Motorboat ride along canals lined with water palm trees. 11:15 – Sampan rowing boat: navigate small canals through water palm forest. 11:45 – Visit a local family honey bee keeping farm. Taste fresh honey tea directly from the hive. 12:15 – Coconut Candy Workshop: watch the traditional production process and taste Ben Tre's signature candy. 12:45 – Traditional Vietnamese lunch at a local restaurant (vegan options available). 13:30 – Buggy / golf cart / tuk-tuk ride through t/.lkj.jlik;jlk;jlk;jkl;jlk;jkl;jkl;jlkhe coconut village. 14:00 – Bicycle tour along village tracks through the delta countryside. 14:45 – Return to the boat. Transfer back to My Tho. 15:30 – Depart for Ho Chi Minh City. 17:00 – Arrive at hotel in District 1. End of tour.
